Market Harborough & District U3A

The U3A movement provides learning and leisure activities for retired and semi-retired people.

Market Harborough and District U3A (MHU3A) operates under the auspices of the Third Age Trust, the national representative body for our organisation in the UK, but like over 1,000 other U3As we are autonomous.

We are a voluntary organisation with membership open to everyone in their 'third age'. After the ages of childhood and work comes a third age of freedom. This should be a time to explore new interests, to share our skills and experiences with others, and to make new friends.

U3A stands for University of the Third Age. This is the original meaning of "university" - simply a community of people who come together to learn from one another. This "university" has no entry requirements, no assessments, no curriculum, no exams. We meet in designated venues or in members' homes. The U3A approach is 'learning for pleasure'.

We are a cooperative, self-help organisation. We have no employees, so we rely on volunteers, without whom we would not be able to continue. We have over 450 members. We ask our members to contribute in some way to the continuity of our organisation, to give as well as to take. We believe that everyone can contribute something - helping to organise an activity group, planning a country walk, taking on committee work, making the coffee at our monthly meeting or putting the chairs away afterwards.

If that seems like something you would like to be part of, click here for an application form, or come along to a Monthly Meeting. You will be very welcome.

Join us. And join in.
